The Rail+ doesn't win any single category, and that's exactly why I like it. It's plush, it's surprisingly poppy for a 24 kg bike, and it has 160 mm at both ends so you're never wishing for more. Bosch CX Gen 5, 800 Wh, done.

The underrated part is the buying experience. There's a Trek dealer in basically every town, and when something needs warranty work, that matters a lot more than saving 400 grams.

It's heavier than the boutique bikes and it's not trying to be the most exciting thing on the trail. It's trying to be the best bike for the most people. It mostly succeeds.

What I like
  • Great value for the spec
  • Dealer everywhere
  • Balanced, confidence-inspiring ride
What I don't
  • Heavy
  • Not the most exciting option

Long-term test pending. Trek, if you'd like this one ridden and reviewed in full, let's talk.
